TOPIC: Design of Polymer Process Water Piping Systems for Laboratories and BioProcess/ Pharma Facilities

This seminar is presented as an introductory course for engineers/designers with limited experience in process water system design and/or those seeking more understanding on design of systems they may have already specified and called out in past project engineering.

The attendees will learn:

·       Understanding of terminology used when discussing Process Water Piping Systems.

·       Knowledge of codes, standards, and the client’s facility protocols in determining the best water quality option for the project

·       Understanding how to properly approach their client with regards to determining their water quality needs.

·       Knowledge of which polymer materials and method of joining are best suited for a particular application and the reasons behind this decision.

·       Knowledge of installation procedures (which piping layout to specify, proper flow control, dead leg considerations, etc.) what to watch for to ensure your project piping is being properly installed by the contractor (to the manufacturers training/certification documentation). Testing and sanitization recommendations.

SPEAKER: Paul G. Galvin 

A member of the Boston Chapter of ASPE since the late 1970’s, Paul G. Galvin is the Business Development Manager, Life Science/Institutional for GF Piping Systems LLC. He has been involved with design and installation of Special Waste Piping, Special Waste Neutralization and Process Water Piping Systems for over 35 years. 
Paul began his career at Camp, Dresser & McKee (now CDM-Smith) in the 1970s and in 1986 left the firm to join the GF Piping System team as a manufacturers’ representative in the Northeast. Along with his duties as a GF rep, from 1983 until 1999 Paul worked for and owned Monitoring Control Systems, Inc., a manufacturing firm involved in the design and production of many acid/caustic injection pH neutralization systems across the Eastern U.S.
In 2000 Paul became a full time member of the GF Piping Systems team. In his current position, he has presented at many ASPE Chapter meetings, Symposiums and Conferences across the U.S. on design of process (RODI, UPW) water piping systems and special waste and neutralization systems, including past presentations on “Design of Polymer Process Water Piping Systems” at the ASPE 2015 Technical Symposium in St. Louis and at the “Symposium des Technologies de l’eau” in Montreal. 
Paul authored an article “Plumbing Design 101, Special Waste Piping Systems” for the ASPE PS&D magazine which was re-published in the “India Plumbing Today”. He co-authored an article for UPW (Ultra Pure Water) magazine titled “Advantages of Recirculating Faucets to Contain POU Microbial Contamination”, which was also presented as a paper at the UPW 2014 meeting.
Paul currently serves as a member of the “Sub-Committee on Polymers and Elastomers” for the ASME Bio-Processing Equipment Standards Committee.
